Day out at Hunstanton Seaside

At The Ashton Care Home in Hinckley, we recently took 5 of our lovely residents out to Hunstanton seaside via our home's minibus to soak up the last bit of sun before winter approaches.

We started off the day with a walk by the sea and found ourselves in the Salad Bar Cafe for some Fish and Chips for lunch. After lunch was settled, we went and sat on some benches to soak up the afternoon's sun and take in the beautiful surroundings.

Everyone had a fabulous day, from start to finish. Our residents were able to chat away the whole day and really socialise and bond with each other as well as the general public - there were lots of jokes and stories being shared amongst the group.

Day trips and excursions are crucial for the mental health of elderly residents in care homes. These outings offer social interaction, mental stimulation, and a break from the routine, combating the loneliness and depression that some people may feel.

Exploring new places, engaging in physical activities, and connecting with nature during these trips can enhance cognitive function and create positive memories. They also provide a sense of independence, reduce feelings of confinement, and strengthen bonds, contributing to an improved quality of life for those in care homes.

It is extremely important to us to organise day trips for our residents as we believe they are key in maintaining and improving their mental health. We strive to provide our residents with a variety of excursions, events and activites that are good for their physical, mental and social wellbeing.
